the hummingbird that caressed my cheek

by Luminita Suse

gazed at me while I read a text
on the cell phone
over and over
grief hauling seas of salt
in hollow eyes
each feather
a sigh
and hummingbirds, of all creatures
know it isn’t worth standing still
for emptiness
